There was a time when the word witch simply meant wise woman. She was the village healer, the midwife, the herb gatherer, the one people went to for comfort when the world felt uncertain. She worked with the moon, the land, and intuition, long before science could explain cycles and hormones.
Many of these so called witches were women in their forties, fifties, and beyond.
Women whose children had grown, whose cycles had stopped, and whose power had only deepened. But their confidence, knowledge, and independence frightened people. And so, tragically, many were labelled as dangerous and silenced.
Obviously there is a huge amount of information about this time, and many complexx factors came into play, such as religion and class etc, but I feel it is important to acknowlege that many of these "witches" were just ordinary ( and sometiems extraordinary) women, experiencing what we now know to be Perimenopause and menopause living off the land and practicing spirituality.

Today, we carry their legacy, not through fear, but through remembrance. We are the modern witches. Wise, intuitive, and unapologetically magical.
Menopause is our rite of passage, not our downfall. It’s the body’s way of saying, “You’ve given enough, now it’s time to receive.”
So, if you’ve been feeling drained, emotional, or like your sparkle has dimmed, these five rituals are little sparks to help you rekindle it. The kind of gentle magic our ancestors would approve of.
🕯️ 1. Candle Ritual for Balance
There’s something ancient about the simple act of lighting a flame. In the days of the wise women, candles were used for healing and focus, a reminder that light exists even in the darkest times.
You’ll need:
A candle in a soothing colour (blue for calm, pink for love, or white for clarity)
A quiet moment. Even five minutes is enough
How to do it:
Take three slow breaths to centre yourself.
Light the candle and gaze softly at the flame.
Whisper or think these words:
“I am steady, I am safe, I am in balance.
I burn away what no longer serves me.”
Picture the flame absorbing your stress, your worries, and your hormonal chaos,
and turning them into calm golden light.
When you blow it out, imagine that balance flowing back into you.💫
Witchy tip: Write your intention on a small piece of paper and place it under the candle while it burns . This is a symbolic reminder that your peace is always protected.

🌕 2. Moon Water for Emotional Release
The moon was the original menstrual calendar. For centuries, women’s cycles mirrored hers, waxing and waning in rhythm with her glow. Even when our own cycles shift or stop, we can still sync with her energy.
You’ll need:
A clean jar or bottle of water
Access to moonlight (a windowsill works beautifully)
An intention for emotional release
How to do it:
Place your jar in the moonlight overnight (full moons are best for release).
Before bed, say:
“Moon above, gentle and wise,
take what I no longer need and bless what remains.”
In the morning, hold the jar close to your heart. Feel the coolness and imagine it washing away tension.
Use your moon water to:
Add to a bath for emotional cleansing
Spritz your pillow or aura before meditation
Water your houseplants with loving energy
🌙 Witchy tip: Keep a “moon diary.” Each month, note what emotions surface and what you choose to release. You’ll begin to notice patterns and powerful shifts.
🔮 3. Crystal Layout for Cooling & Grounding
Crystals were once believed to be the Earth’s frozen tears. Gifts of calm, clarity, and energy. Whether you see them as tools or symbols, they offer beautiful reminders to stay grounded and cared for.
You’ll need:
Moonstone (for hormonal balance and feminine energy)
Black tourmaline or hematite (for grounding and protection)
Rose quartz (for self-love and compassion)
How to do it:
Lie comfortably on your back.
Place:
Moonstone at your heart (to balance emotions)
Rose quartz over your belly (to soften and soothe)
Black tourmaline near your feet (to draw excess heat and energy downwards)
Close your eyes and imagine cool, silvery moonlight flowing through you from head to toe.
Breathe slowly. In for calm, out for release.
Stay here for 10–15 minutes, breathing slowly and releasing tension on every outbreath. You may feel tingling, warmth, or simply peace.
💎 Witchy tip: Store your crystals on your windowsill during the full moon to “recharge” their energy.
🍵 4. Kitchen Witch Tea Blend for Calm
For centuries, women healed from their kitchens. Stirring herbs, whispering blessings, and creating potions of comfort. You don’t need a cauldron, just a mug, some herbs, and a little intention.
You’ll need:
1 tsp chamomile (for rest and peace)
½ tsp lavender (for relaxation)
A few rose petals (for heart healing)
A drizzle of honey (for sweetness and warmth)
How to do it:
As you boil the water, think of your kettle as a mini cauldron, bubbling with possibility.
Add the herbs to your cup and pour over the hot water.
Stir clockwise and whisper:
“Peace in my mind, calm in my body,
love in my heart. All is well within me.”
Sit quietly as you sip, imagining each mouthful restoring your energy.
🫖 Witchy tip: Make a ritual of it. Light your candle, play soft music, and sip slowly. The magic lies not just in the herbs, but in the intention.

🌌 5. Evening Spell for Deep Rest
Sleep can be elusive during perimenopause and menopause, but rest is sacred, a time when the body regenerates and the soul dreams. This gentle spell helps your body remember that rest is safe and healing.
You’ll need:
A few drops of lavender or clary sage oil
A small amethyst crystal
A quiet space before bed
How to do it:
Dab a little oil on your wrists and over your heart.
Hold the amethyst and close your eyes.
Whisper:
“Night falls softly, and I am safe.
My body restores, my mind releases, I surrender to rest and peace.”
Place the crystal under your pillow and imagine yourself wrapped in violet light.
💤 Witchy tip: Keep a notebook by your bed to record dreams or thoughts that come through the night, your intuition often speaks most clearly when you’re resting.
🖤The Return of the Wise Woman
The witch trials tried to silence women at the height of their wisdom, but they couldn’t. That wisdom lives in us still, in every cup of tea brewed with care, every moonlit moment of reflection, every decision to honour our changing bodies instead of fighting them.
So light your candle, stir your potion, whisper your spells. You are not becoming old, you are becoming ancient and luminous, like the moon herself.
✨ Because menopause isn’t the end of your magic. It’s the moment you finally remember, you’ve had it all along.
